Budaun (UP):A fire broke out in the engine of a passenger train on the Bareilly-Kasganj rail route in Budaun district on Monday, prompting the loco pilot to apply the emergency brakes and stop the train, officials said.
Circle Officer (City) Rahul Pandey said no life or property was lost in the incident, and the fire was extinguished after about an hour.
The incident occurred near Malgaon railway station, under the Binawar police station area, when the engine wiring of train number 55328, travelling from Kasganj to Bareilly, caught fire, emitting thick smoke and flames.
This disruption halted rail traffic on the Bareilly-Kasganj section for over three hours, stopping several trains at Budaun, Kachhla Bridge, Ghatpuri, and Kasganj stations.
After noticing the fire, loco pilot Sarvesh Singh immediately halted the train and alerted railway control, preventing any casualties, officials said.
Railway personnel initially attempted to extinguish the blaze, but sought assistance from the fire brigade after the flames intensified.
Train Manager Piyush Kumar Verma said the exact cause of the fire would be ascertained after an enquiry. He said an alternative engine had been requisitioned to resume the train's journey.
He said the train would be sent to its destination after the replacement engine arrived from Kasganj and that an investigation into the incident had been ordered.
